The Ventura County Film Festival A Tradition of Cinema and Environmental Education

The Ventura Film Festival proudly holds the distinction of being "the most extensive film festival in Ventura County's history." This prestigious recognition underscores the festival's commitment to presenting varied film content to regional audiences while keeping its emphasis on vital ecological concerns.

The Ventura Film Festival functions as a multi-genre global film festival that builds consciousness about environmental challenges including terrestrial and aquatic preservation and renewal, via an annual film festival and associated activities. The festival leverages the impact of filmmaking to motivate engagement and create meaningful dialogue around these critical conservation concerns.

The Ventura Film Festival launched in 2004 and has displayed hundreds of movies, usually over 200 films each summer, and has generated excitement within the global cinema community. Throughout its history, the event has developed into an important cultural gathering that assembles film artists, environmental champions, and spectators from around the world.

Some of the highlights have been presenting celebrated filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the pioneering world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and surf legend Ian Cairns, four-time world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA competitor the legendary Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50th Anniversary tribute to West Side Story, which involved hosting the entire award-winning cast of West Side Story, including Oscar recipient/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris along with Golden Globe winner/Academy Award nominee Russ Tamblyn. The Ventura Film Festival's founder and executive director was chosen to participate, along with several of Hollywood's premier talents, in the golden anniversary celebration of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Academy Award recipients Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, as well as Golden Globe honoree Russ Tamblyn at the historic Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
